Anxiety is a normal reaction toward life circumstances but it becomes a disorder when there is an overwhelming feeling of fear, anxiety and the person is unable to cope up with it. There are two kinds of stress- first one is good and optimal for people as it makes them more productive before an exam or a deadline. Second one is distress or anxiety disorder which is difficult to handle, tolerate or overcome and may lead to a mental breakdown of the person. Anxiety disorders consist of psychological symptoms like tension, worried and negative thoughts, unable to concentrate like before and physical symptoms like high blood pressure, palpitation, tremors, headache, dry mouth and shortness of breath. Thus feeling nervous is common but when people experience these symptoms without any reason then anxiety disorder diagnosis should be taken into consideration.Dr. Abhinav Monga, consultant Neuropsychiatrist practicing at Krishna Nagar, Delhi, speaks about the difference between normal stress and anxiety disorder.
