Anemia is very commonly seen in women and children today. Anemia can be an important sign of an underlying major disease like cancer in the bone marrow. Nutritional deficiency is the most common cause of anemia in India today. There are different kinds of anemia like thalassemia or sickle cell anemia. In serious cases, patients may have early fatigue, breathlessness, chest pain and discomfort, increased hair fall and dry skin. There may also be irritability, anxiety and depression in these patients. Dr. Akansha Salkar, consultant hemato-oncologist from Nagpur, Maharashtra discusses when is anemia a serious concern.
