It is important for women to differentiate their symptoms of pregnancy from their general PMS symptoms. Premenstrual symptoms are usually experienced around 7-10 days prior to periods. Some of these symptoms are also commonly seen in the first trimester of pregnancy. However, it is important to know that a woman can only be pregnant if she has missed her period. Pregnancy will always cause nausea and vomiting in the first trimester. However, PMS does not usually have severe nausea. PMS will generally cause breast tenderness, abdominal pain and cramps as well as emotional symptoms.
