Acid reflux is common in babies and thus it is important to know about the different causes of acid reflux so that it can be managed well. It occurs due to the immature motility of the esophagus. Preterm babies are more prone to this kind of reflux. Immaturity of the gut in babies leads to increased transition time for digestion. Babies need to be fed every few hours and in many cases, it also leads to acid reflux related problems. Sometimes the position of breastfeeding may also exaggerate the reflux in a baby. On the other hand, GERD is commonly associated with metabolic disorders and pathological diseases.Dr. M.
