Toilet training is immensely important for children as it involves teaching them to recognize their body signals for urinating as well as for having bowel movements. It may also imply teaching the child to use the toilet or potty chairs correctly and at the proper times. This helps a child to gain confidence that eventually also enriches other areas of his development. For example, when he is properly toilet trained, he no longer perceives himself as a baby. This also reduces risks of voiding disorders, constipation and wetting problems. Dr. Joshi Anand Kerketta, pediatrician from Durgapur, West Bengal, discusses toilet training in children.
