The first 24 hours following a stroke are critical. Strokes fall into two main categories: hemorrhagic and ischemic. In a hemorrhagic stroke, bleeding occurs due to a ruptured vessel, whereas in an ischemic stroke, the brain’s blood supply is obstructed. For ischemic strokes, thrombolysis is performed within the first 4 hours after symptoms begin. Treatment for hemorrhagic strokes depends on the extent of bleeding. If the bleeding is extensive, decompressive craniectomy is necessary. For smaller bleeds, the blood can be removed via an endoscopic procedure. <br>Dr. K. V.
