Diaper rash is one of the most common issues faced by the parents of newborns. In order to prevent diaper rash, it is important to change the diapers as soon as it gets wet. This is because the ammonia present in the stool and urine might cause redness in the skin. If the baby is at home, it is better not to make them wear diapers. The problem gets more severe if the baby wears a wet diaper for a long time. This is because it will not only cause rashes but also pain. The baby will feel uncomfortable and they will cry due to the pain. Additionally, parents need to use diaper rash creams. It is preferable to use these creams which contain emollients. Antifungals can also be added in the form of powder. All this will help the baby to feel comfortable. If the diaper rash is more severe, a stool examination is required to check if the baby is lactose intolerant or not, but this is a rare condition. <br>Dr. K V Sudhakar, a paediatrician from Telangana discusses diaper rash and its treatment.
