The debate on whether to use cloth vs disposable diapers is faced by most new parents today. Cloth diapers are made up of cotton and therefore are cheaper as compared to disposable diapers. They can be washed and reused and they are environmentally friendly. The chances of having diaper rashes are also less when cloth diapers are used as it allows air to pass in. Disposable diapers have a higher absorbing capacity but are not environmentally friendly. If there is a delay in changing these diapers, there may be diaper rashes. It is therefore important to change the diapers as soon as they become wet. Dr. Prasanna Muniyappa, pediatrician and neonatologist from Bangalore, Karnataka, discusses whether cloth or disposable diapers are best for babies.
