Macular degeneration is a disease of old age that typically affects the retina, it is usually seen in smokers and older age groups. The degeneration of the retina and macular with the presence of defects in the pigment of the epithelial layer occurs in this condition. Symptoms like loss of vision are caused which is irreversible to some extent. Vitamins like zinc are given to the patients to maintain the present condition of the retina.   &lt;br&gt;In severe cases patients may develop Choroidal neovascularization in which the vision might deplete further. In such conditions, intravitreal injections like Ranibizumab are given to the patients. In some cases, patients lose vision rapidly and are treated with ranibizumab injections 2-3 times a day.  &lt;br&gt;In this video Dr. Pratiroop Gangopadhyay explains the symptoms and treatment of age-related macular degeneration.
