Flat head syndrome in babies is medically referred to as Plagiocephaly. It appears like a flat or a bald spot on one side of the head, appearing as an asymmetric head. It is common in the first four months of life. The flat head syndrome occurs when the baby regularly sleeps on the same side and is called Positional plagiocephaly. Congenital plagiocephaly is rare. The positional flat head syndrome can be prevented by changing the baby’s sleep position and by moving the baby on and off. The baby should be kept in the tummy position while awake.
