Conjunctivitis also known as pink eye is an irritation of the conjunctiva that covers the white portion of the eyeball. Some of the symptoms of conjunctivitis include redness, itching, discharge and tears from the eyes. It usually happens in the winter or rainy season wherein an infected person wakes up in the morning and has a sticky discharge that sticks the eyelids together. It is usually treated with drops and frequent sanitization of hands helps to avoid spreading of the disease to other family members. It is better to visit an ophthalmologist to make sure that the cornea or any part of the eye is not affected. The treatment is usually given for one week that helps in recovery. A patient having arthritis or spondylitis may experience continuous redness in the eyes. There is also another type called sub conjunctival hemorrhage where the eyes will look blood red.
