There are diverse causes of lack of appetite in children and it is important to understand these well. The most common reason for lack of appetite in children is iron deficiency. By the time a child is six months old, he must be supplemented with iron till he is 2 years old. This will ensure that the hemoglobin levels are normal so that the child eats normally. Other sources of iron must also be included in the diet and this must include lots of green vegetables and soups. Healthy eating habits must be encouraged in children and different kinds of foods must be introduced. The child should be fed bland vegetables first so that they acquire a natural taste for vegetables. Sweet items should be given to them last.
