Bifidobacterium and fungi like Saccharomyces are commercially available. Mother’s milk has pre-biotics that are naturally present in the milk. In case the mother does not have it, supplementary milk is given. Supplementary milk is given to the mother in the event that she does not have prebiotics.  Commercial milk is supplemented with FOS and GOS which is a prebiotic which helps in developing probiotics in the intestine.The good bacteria and the bad bacteria are constantly at war inside the body. Good bacteria in yogurt and curd help to cool the stomach, indicating that intestinal good bacteria help to develop and strengthen the immune system. Diarrhea occurs when the number of bad bacteria is higher. Dr. Rajesh Kumar Goel, consultant pediatrician from Kolkata, discusses the examples of prebiotics and probiotics.
