It is important for everyone to be aware of the primary retinopathy of prematurity causes so that it can be managed well. It is commonly seen in babies who are born prematurely before 34 weeks of gestation and more in babies who are less than 32 weeks of gestation. Prematurity itself is a cause of retinopathy of prematurity. Babies who have had prolonged oxygen exposure due to respiratory problems are more prone to develop this condition. As such there are no signs and symptoms of this disease. An active investigation needs to be done to identify it.
