Patients with diabetes need to keep a strict check on their “Lipid profile” which includes LDL and HDL levels, triglyceride and total cholesterol levels. LDL levels are commonly targeted in diabetic patients as this causes more strokes and heart attacks. LDL below 100 is the target among the normal population. In case of diabtiec patients, it must be brought down to 70 to reduce chances of strokes and heart attacks. Cholesterol also increases the risks of Atherosclerosis wherein there is narrowing of arteries and veins which ultimately causes strokes and heart attacks. It is thus important for diabetic patients to check cholesterol levels at least twice a year and try to control it as prescribed by the doctor.
