Whenever a child shows any symptoms of water intoxication, it is crucial to take him to the hospital immediately. If he experiences signs of convulsions, medicines are given to control these convulsions. In addition, if he needs respiratory support, ventilatory support has to be given. Most children recover within 3-4 days if taken to the hospital on time. However, if left ignored, children may suffer from brain damage and even death.
