Kidney disease in children is often caused by nephrotic syndrome, where excess protein is lost in the urine, leading to low albumin levels and swelling around the eyes and body. Additionally, red-colored urine may signal a kidney issue. Congenital abnormalities of the kidneys and urinary tract are also potential causes. Other signs include excessive urination, increased thirst, failure to grow properly in height or weight, and anaemia.
